Studio Class

During this intense five-day workshop, artists will be challenged with new “slice of life” compositions. By popular demand, Joe Anna will again create the exercises and challenges she presented in Pat Waymon’s 2011 Fall workshop. Working from exciting and stimulating visual creations, artists will do studies and then final paintings to find their own compositions from unique environments. Artists may choose to create paintings that are quite simple or very complex depending on their studies and selection of subject from the environments presented. This compelling challenge has proved to stimulate artists’ abilities in composition and their creativity. It’s a unique approach that has proved successful and joyful.

Outdoor and Original

For two days during the Plein Air Artists Colorado™ Taos Workshop, Joe Anna Arnett will conduct a very different and original workshop. One day will be devoted to exploring the possibilities of rich and colorful outdoor still life subjects. Artists will tap all of their Plein air skills: composition, atmosphere, the constant movement of light, as well as drawing skills. Another day will be an exciting opportunity to paint a dramatic costumed model out of doors. The model's attire will be a surprise. Our model will first strike some quick poses for a warm-up and then hold longer poses. There is historic artistic precedent for both the still life and the model out of doors in the works of John Singer Sargent and some of the Russian greats and we will enjoy a rich experience bringing our own interpretations to both

EcuadorPlein Air Adventure in Ecuador - "Volcanoes and Roses"
August 29 - September 8, 2012

Facebook for Ecuador

I lead this workshop in October of 2011 and it was so wonderful that I can't wait to return. We painted the mountains, the volcanoes, roses of every color, people in the markets and Chagras (Ecuador's cowboys). The green of the mountains is startling and remains green all year round. Flowers are always in bloom and the season is constant Spring. Laundry hangs from every house, cows graze on the roadside and chickens go where they will. One fine day, we rode gentle horses to our painting location while a truck brought our painting gear and snacks along. The wealth of subjects will amaze you. It certainly amazed and delighted me. Fly into Quito, Ecuador's capital, the 2nd highest capital city in South America. You will be met at Quito’s airport and transported to our charming mountain hacienda near a quaint village on lower slopes of Volcan Corazon, the heart of Ecuador's "Avenue of the Volcanoes", a spectacular valley dividing the eastern and western ranges of the Andes. The rooms are well appointed and have with private baths and beautiful views. Authentic local recipes are served 'ranch style' and a service oriented staff will keep us comfortable.
